Five Star Infrastructure Services was built on a simple principle: do the work right, take care of people, and build trust through performance.
Our roots in Wisconsin utility construction go back decades, beginning with local crews delivering gas, electric, and underground infrastructure projects with Arby Construction in the 1970s. Over time, those early operations grew into KS Energy Services, serving utilities across the Midwest grounded in safety, craftsmanship, and long-term relationships.
KS Energy was acquired in 2019, with founders then creating Unite Underground Construction and Five Star Energy Services in 2020. As utility demands expanded and projects became more complex, Unite and Five Star merged in 2021, bringing a decades-long legacy that started at Arby back together under one name.
Investing in people, equipment, and capabilities to support large-scale gas, electric, fiber, and water infrastructure programs, Five Star grew out of regional construction work and became an integrated platform designed to support modern utility systems from planning through restorationacross the US.
In its next chapter, Five Star was acquired with private-equity backing in 2024. A major milestone in that growth came with the acquisition of InterCon Construction in 2025. Based in Waunakee, Wisconsin, InterCon adds more than 40 years of interstate transmission pipeline experience to Five Star’s growing portfolio. The company also acquired New York-based M&C that same year.
Together, the companies rebranded as Five Star Infrastructure Services, and today Five Star operates as a unified turnkey infrastructure partner serving municipalities, cooperatives, investor-owned utilities, and private clients. Our teams deliver critical projects across gas distribution, electric systems, broadband expansion, water and sewer, and transmission — coordinating complex scopes while keeping safety, schedules, and communities front and center.
We remain a hands-on contractor built around accountability, safety, and relationships. Many of our leaders and field professionals come from multi-generation construction families. Others joined us from across the industry, drawn by a culture that values steady execution over shortcuts and long-term partnerships over short wins.
Our history isn’t defined by dates or milestones alone — it’s defined by the work we complete, the crews we support, and the utilities that trust us to deliver essential infrastructure.
And as communities invest in modernization, resiliency, and connectivity, Five Star continues to build forward — honoring our past while focused squarely on what’s next.
